National Cycle Route 81 crosses the River Severn via the Halfpenny Bridge in Newtown Y Drenewydd. The signs prohibiting cyclists from using the bridge were initially thought to be a problem until Sustrans discovered a legal loophole. The translation of the traffic regulation order from the original Welsh resulted in bicycles being classified as domestic pets.
