Intelligent use of colours can help to highlight hazards placed in cycle-paths. In this example on the A52 in Nottinghamshire, the highly conspicuous shade of black gives approaching cyclists the visual impression that the bus shelter occupies the entire width of the path, making it difficult to miss.
