A Cycle Training Facility

narrow door-zone cycle lane leads into a build-out
Adrian Botting

The hazards associated with door-zone cycle lanes have been widely recognised. In order to familiarise cyclists with the evasive manoeuvre necessary to avoid an opening car door, the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames has installed this admirable training facility in Douglas Road. A kerb build-out has been carefully placed to obstruct the half-width cycle lane to enable cyclists to practice swerving into the path of motor traffic.
